Watching the stars fall on the shore at Lake Norman
A friend and I have been boating out at Lake Norman recently and man, what a lifestyle up there.
We pull out of The Peninsula Yacht Club harbor and run north as the day and our own whim takes us. As we motor out in a 24 foot Sea Ray Sundeck, I am awestruck by the phenomenal homes in certain areas of Lake Norman.
I am most familiar with The Peninsula, as my friend lives in that prestigious enclave of lovely estates. You can still buy quite affordable homes there and it is truly amazing to see what a price tag of just below $500,000 can still get you in The Peninsula.
Back on the water, we move along past Langtree, The Point and other gatherings of lavish estates and gardens to rival a Kings palace. Homes here can easily run into the $2MM - $4MM price range. We cruised by one home the other day that has its own helicopter landing pad out on the water. I think I’ll look into getting something like that. I never know when I might need to “copter” over to some function too far for a quick spin over in my Aston Martin.
There is no doubt that we are not all created equal. That does not, however, mean that I am unhappy with my station in life. It’s always good to check a reference point relative to one’s own, whether higher or lower. Lake Norman is its own universe and the stars fall along its shore in the form of these fantastic homes.
As I arrive at my own home in Stallings, North Carolina, I am as glad to be there as at any lakeshore dream address. For, after all, I am happy with who I am and where I live. Is that not the true measure of living a fulfilled life?
